Epicentrum wstrząsów znajdowało się w odległości 10 km na południe od miasta Napa, ok. 75 km od San Francisco.
Szpital w Napie poinformował o udzieleniu pomocy ponad 70 pacjentom, głównie ze skaleczeniami i stłuczeniami. W mieście przerwanych zostało 50 przewodów gazowych i 30 rur wodociągowych. Napływają też informacje o uszkodzeniach budynków. W rejonie trzęsienia dziesiątki tysięcy gospodarstw domowych zostały pozbawione prądu.
Straż pożarna w Napie poinformowała o wybuchu sześciu dużych pożarów. Spłonęły m.in. cztery przyczepy kempingowe.
Było to najsilniejsze trzęsienie ziemi w tym rejonie od 1989 roku, kiedy trzęsienie o sile 6,9 pochłonęło 63 ofiary śmiertelne i spowodowało znaczne straty materialne.
