Można się tylko dziwić ignorancji i głupocie grup pod szyldem Tea Party, promujących pomysł secesji i podpisujących petycje na rzecz odłączenia się ich stanu od Unii. Ta promocja secesji ma – ich zdaniem – stanowić rozwiązanie problemu "tyranii federalnego rządu" i likwidacji "groźby zadłużenia Waszyngtonu". Utrzymują oni, że rząd federalny sieje zniszczenie w naszej gospodarce i depcze nasze swobody, a prawem i obowiązkiem obywateli jest usunięcie takiego rządu na rzecz stworzenia podstaw przyszłego bezpieczeństwa i dobrobytu.
Prawdziwym motywem ruchu Tea Party na rzecz secesji jest przegrana w tegorocznych wyborach prezydenckich.
Próby czy aspiracje na rzecz secesji od rządu federalnego istnieją w polityce naszego kraju od czasu jego powstania. Niektórzy mówią o konstytucyjnym prawie do secesji, inni o prawie naturalnym lub rewolucji. Sąd Najwyższy USA uznał jednostronnę secesję za niezgodną z Konstytucją.
Tak naprawdę istniał tylko jeden poważny ruch na rzecz odłączenia się części kraju i poniósł on porażkę w wojnie secesyjnej. W 1860 r. jedenaście południowych stanów ogłosiło secesję z Unii i przyłączyło się do Skonfederowanych Stanów Ameryki.
Próba ta zakończyła się klęską po przegranej wojnie w 1865 r. Wyniki międzynarodowego sondażu wykazują, że 22 proc. Amerykanów opowiada się za prawem każdego stanu do oderwania się i przekształcenia w republikę.
Kwestia secesji została raz na zawsze rozstrzygnięta przelaną krwią na zakończenie wojny secesyjnej. Nie należy więc rozważać, czy zwolennicy Tea Party mają prawo opuścić Amerykę, lecz czy czasem Tea Party nie opuściła już naszej planety.

Secession is for fools
One has to wonder about the ignorance and stupidity of the Tea Party groups who are promoting the idea of secession and signing petitions to secede their state from the Union. They are promoting secession as a solution to the “tyranny of the national government!’ and as a solution to the “Washington debt threat.” They argue that the National Government has become destructive of our economy and liberty and that as such it is the right and duty of the people to throw off such government and to provide a new basis for our future security and well being.
The real motivation for the Tea Party’s secession movement is their loss in this year’s presidential election.
Attempts at or aspirations of secession from the National Government have been a historical feature of the country’s politics since its creation. Some have argued for a constitutional right of a session and others for a natural right or revolution. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that unilateral secession was unconstitutional.
There has been only one serious secession movement which was defeated in the American Civil War. In 1860, eleven of the southern states declared their secession from the Union and joined together as the Confederate State of America. The attempt collapsed in 1865 after losing the war. An international poll revealed that 22 percent of American believed that any state has the right to secede and become an independent republic.
The right of secession has been settled for all times in blood at the end of the Civil War. The issue is not whether the Tea Party supporters can petition to leave America, but that the Tea Party has left the planet.
